Restoration artists in Rome restored two sculptures from a museum in the Syrian town of Palmyra after they were damaged by militants from the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL), at the Italian Institute for Conservation and Restoration, Thursday.
Francesco Rutelli, former Mayor of Rome (English): "I think the importance initially is that we do not accept that the last word is given to terrorists. If they want to destroy there will always be somebody able to rebuild. There can be rebirth for cultural heritage."
Some adult ears might welcome a room of hushed 8-year-olds, but teachers of young children know that the chatter in a typical elementary classroom is what makes it a good place to learn. Yes, it’s sometimes too loud. These young humans are not great conversationalists. They are often hurting someone’s feelings or getting hurt, misunderstanding or overreacting or completely missing the point. They need time to learn communication skills—how to hold your own and how to get along with others. They need to talk and listen and talk some more at school, both with peers and with adults who can model conversation skills. The iPads subtly undermined that important work. My lively little kids stopped talking and adopted the bent-neck, plugged-in posture of tap, tap, swipe.
This resentment is intensified by rising social inequality. Everybody now knows that neoliberalism did not deliver the promised “trickle-down” effect; rather, it delivered trickle-up, because, even since the recession began, almost all the fruits of growth have gone to the rich. Working- and middle-class incomes have flatlined or fallen. Now, it seems, the wealthy cyber-elites are creating machines to put the rest of us out of work entirely.

Nice...
“We shape our buildings,” Churchill said, “and afterwards our buildings shape us.” He might also have said, we shape our technologies and afterwards our technologies shape us."
Parece ficção científica mas não é. Só vendo.
