Isaac Newton Creates a List of His 57 Sins (Circa 1662)

Em 1936, um documento de Newton datado de cerca de 1662 foi vendido pela Sotheby’s em leilão e acabou no Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, England. O Fitzwilliam Manuscript é uma fonte de fascínio para os estudiosos de Newton. Não apenas tem um conjunto de problemas matemáticos dificílimos de resolver como tem uma sequência críptica de letras:

Mas o que torna o documento interessante é a confissão da lista de pecados que Newton terá cometido durante a sua, relativamente curta, vida, até então. Ele tinha 20 anos quando a escreveu e era estudante em Cambridge.

A lista está dividida em duas categorias (não se sabe porquê): antes e depois de Whitsunday 1662, sendo que Whitsunday é o Domingo celebrado sete semanas depois da Páscoa.

Neste dia, em 1618, Kepler descobriu a terceira lei do movimento planetário. Esta lei estabelece a relação entre a distância dos planetas ao sol e os seus intervalos orbitais. Juntamente com as teorias de Newton as descobertas de Kepler ajudaram a fundar a astronomia e a física modernas. (fonte: europeana)

Enquanto uns fazem revoluções na Terra outros estudam as revoluções dos céus. A visão, a persistência e a obstinação são as virtudes dos grandes pensadores.
